I am white, and my boyfriend is Indian, I am also 15 years his senior. We have been in a loving relationship for 5 years. His parents don't accept our relationship, as it is too far out of their frame of reference being traditional old fashioned Indian parents. There is also a very large generation gap btw my boyfriend and his parents, making it even harder for them to get their head around our relationship, or even their son's modern thinking. We live in Australia.
However, I can say, that they are slowly slowly coming round, (they ask a few questions here and there about our lifestyle) not because they are more partial to accepting me, or the relationship for that matter, but ONLY because they do not want to alienate their son, and finally, lose him.
Also, I think Indian parents should realise that they did not give birth to their sons and daughters conditionally, matlab, that they cannot control every aspect of their lives and ultimately cannot choose for them what they might have chosen for themselves.... In this sense, western parents do a better job at letting go of that control, but it starts early, when their kids are teenagers.
